Training Programs

Forestry Training Programs

We offer several services designed to educate communities in wildfire prevention and firefighting practices. Between our Fire Safety courses, mentorship programs and FireSmart initiatives, we are able to inform individuals at all levels and further work to mitigate natural disasters in Saskatchewan.

Firefighter Training

Increasing the number of individuals trained in fighting fires is a constant focus for Saskatchewan First Nations Emergency Management. With limited capacity, we must continue to build support from First Nation bands and leadership. Through their cooperation and vested interest in participating in these initiatives, we can help communities protect and prevent natural disasters in their areas. These programs are ongoing and we encourage you to learn more about how you can participate.

Mentorship Programs

Educating individuals on how they can become stakeholders in fire prevention and mitigation helps us to spread awareness around life-saving practices. Our mentorship programs serve to empower families, individuals and leaders to be able to support their communities with emergency planning resources and practices.

Fire Safety

Public education is one of the most challenging components as most communities assume emergency services will be available to protect their neighbourhood during a wildfire. While we train emergency responders to be there as efficiently as possible, there is a lot that can be done to prevent fires, safely respond when they occur, and provide protection for yourselves and your loved ones. Offering Fire Safety demonstrations and workshops allows us to continuously increase the level of awareness for our communities.

FireSmart

Through the FireSmart initiative, we can educate the public on practices that help to control the spread of wildfires and reduce the risk they can pose to their homes and neighbourhoods. This initiative stretches from the individual level all the way up to government legislation. Because of the far-reaching impact, this training can have, it plays a vital role in ensuring the continued protection of First Nation communities throughout Saskatchewan.
