 First Nations Emergency Services

We are committed to providing qualified emergency management training, mentoring and support to all Saskatchewan First Nations people so that we can build resilience, capacity and sustainability in our communities.

First Nations Emergency Response Plan

First Nations Emergency Response Plan

Our office works with Federal, Provincial, ISC and independent agencies so that our training and programs comply with the highest standards. To pass on these practices, we document emergency plans for our communities and support First Nations bands in developing their own plans through a customizable emergency response plan that the community is able to build and maintain.

Emergency Services

Training and programs allow us to help develop and mitigate risks for vulnerable communities, but we also train individuals to operate as first-responders to emergency situations. Saskatchewan First Nations Emergency Management provides fire fighting training as well as search and rescue services for all First Nations communities. To accommodate the vast region that we’re serving, we work closely with neighbour organizations to ensure that all emergencies are addressed as quickly as possible.

Firefighting

Firefighting

Our team provides training in combatting fires in rural and forested areas to our First Nation communities and neighbouring organizations. Whether a fire emergency breaks out in a community, at home, or in the forest, we want to make sure that those communities can respond, put out the fire, mitigate the spread and ensure impacted individuals receive medical attention. We are also able to support in providing relocation support in the event that someone’s home is lost in a fire through our Red Cross training.

Fire Investigation

Fire Investigation

Once a fire has been put out, we conduct an investigation into the cause of the outbreak. This is done to determine whether there was intentional malicious activity or if an incident occurred that could have been avoided with proper fire safety precautions. By performing these reviews, we’re able to continuously improve a community’s awareness of fire risks and reduce future threats.

Search & Rescue

Search & Rescue

We are the official Prince Albert Grand Council Search, Rescue and Recovery SARSAV Team in Saskatchewan. This means that SFNEM is able to assist families in finding their lost loved ones throughout First Nation communities with the resources and capacity needed to ensure that a thorough and expedient search can be conducted.

Emergency operation centres

Emergency Operation Centres

Natural disasters, like wildfires and flooding, continue to increase and the remote geographic locations of First Nations communities puts them at increased risk of emergencies. In the event of a disaster, we can have officers available in Emergency Operation Centres and in affected communities that can assist and guide emergency staff and volunteers, in addition to our other emergency response services.
