Mentorship

Firefighter Mentorship Program

To build capacity and training around firefighting, we provide mentorship programs and fire service coaching to communities and organizations throughout Saskatchewan. These programs offer individuals the opportunity to learn or improve their firefighting practices.

Fighting Fire with Coaching

We believe that the best tool we have against natural disasters and emergencies is in numbers. If we can increase the number of people trained in the proper combatting, controlling and preventing of fires then we will be able to reduce the amount of incidents that occur. These firefighters can then be on call for communities 24/7.

Our programs will train you to the standard of accreditation of IFSAC and Pro Board, which will allow you the opportunity to become a certified firefighter through the written and practical examination.

 SFNEM’s Firefighter Mentorship Program

Our mentorship program provides training and practices for emergency fire situations. This training involves education in fire behaviour and suppression, pump operations, personal protective equipment and more. The program involves a combination of classroom and active exercises so that participants can gain greater familiarity with the equipment, environments and practices required to successfully combat a fire while ensuring their personal safety.

Learn Not to Burn Program

This National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) program is provided to Preschool, Kindergarten, Grade 1 and 2 levels. Firefighters are taught how to run the program for grades K-12 so they can educate children on positive, practical fire safety. Learn Not to Burn takes advantage of learning habits for youth and incorporates music, play and home connections. With access to certified classroom teachers to build an informed curriculum, this initiative has proven invaluable in spreading awareness of fire safety early in a child’s development—giving them valuable lessons to carry forward and remember.

 Standardized Programming

We work closely with Federal, Provincial, ISC and independent agencies so that our training and programs comply with the highest standards we’re able to provide—addressing the needs of our First Nations bands. We pair this programming with our learned and lived experiences gained over the years of training and emergency response situations in Saskatchewan. This allows us to create training and education directly applicable to the region where mentees will be operating. This training allows firefighters to reach a level where they are able to be certified through the written and practical firefighter examination.
