Emergency & Protective Services Officer (EPSO) 

2 Permanent Positions

Position Summary: 

The EPSO will help develop and implement Firefighting and Emergency Management training for Saskatchewan’s First Nation communities. This training will include all aspects relating to the four pillars of emergency management. 

Duties Include:  

  • Supporting the emergency preparedness and response readiness of Saskatchewan First Nation communities. 

  • Develop and deliver all aspects of structural firefighter training to all Saskatchewan First Nation communities and have it certified by the National Indigenous Fire Safety Council.

  • Attend and support community meetings through all aspects of fire department capital projects. 

  • Search and Rescue deployments when requested.  

  • Working with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency and other Provincial agencies to improve services for on-reserve Emergency Management and Evacuations.  

  • Test the training delivered by a variety of means including “table-top exercises” and exams. 

  • Help Saskatchewan First Nation communities to develop and maintain Fire Prevention programs. 

  • Review and assist with community Emergency Response Plans when asked to do so. 

  • Work with First Nation community’s elected officials when requested before, during and after local emergencies to give guidance and insight about fire department and emergency management matters. 

  • Work extended hours during emergency response events.  

  • On call duties for a rotating schedule.

  • Other duties as requested by Director: Saskatchewan First Nation Emergency Management  

Required Qualifications and Experience: 

  • NFPA 1001 Level 1-2 Certification. 

  • Experience in structural firefighting training and delivery of fire prevention programs would be an asset.  

  • NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor would be an asset. 

  • 1031 Building Inspector would be an asset but not required.

  • Knowledge of national/provincial fire codes would be an asset. 

  • A Diploma in Emergency Management with field experience would be an asset. 

  • Experience working with First Nation communities and organizations and familiarity with First Nation Culture, history, and governance. 

  • Driver’s licence.  

  • Class 3 drivers’ licence with air brake endorsement would be an asset.  

  • Incident Command Systems 100 and 200.

  • Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills are required for this position. 

  • Experience in the Emergency Preparedness and Response field would be an asset. 

  • Ability to train small and large groups of emergency and response personnel by yourself or with other trainers and maintain records of the training. 

  • Experience with working with other First Responders such as police, fire, ambulance, and health care workers are an asset. 

  • Experience with Microsoft office programs and report writing.

  • Background or experience with Wildland Firefighting and the Wildland Urban Interface is an asset.

Public Education Program Coordinator

Summer Student Position

Prince Albert Grand Council Forestry & Search and Rescue is seeking a motivated Summer Student Public Education Program Coordinator to support the development and delivery of public safety education initiatives across Saskatchewan.

This position assists with coordinating and delivering public education presentations, outreach activities, and community events focused on wildfire prevention and public safety. The successful candidate will help organize program logistics, support public presentations, coordinate mascot appearances such as Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog, and work with schools, First Nation communities, municipalities, and community organizations.

The role also includes assisting with the planning of educational materials, scheduling events, coordinating travel arrangements, and supporting daily program operations. This position requires strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a willingness to travel throughout the province during the spring and summer programming season.

  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

  • Location: Prince Albert, Saskatchewan

  • Travel: Extensive road travel required

  • Requirements: Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle
